*_DATA containing blanks

Hi,

Tracking down the *_DATA containing files with blanks has shown to be
more difficult than I had expected.

Besides having problems with the "list=XXX; for x in $$list; do"
construct used thought many *.am files, "make distdir" also is not able
to handle files with blanks (i.e. "make distcheck" also doesn't accept
filenames with blanks).

Below is my attempt to get *_DATA containing filenames with blanks and
"make distdir" functional (Up to now, only tested on RH-9).

I hope not to have broken too much, but due to the size of this patch, I
would not exclude anything ;-)
