I want to echo my thanks as well. Testing on cygwin with m4.git branch-1.6,
the coreutils configure script went from:
Autoconf 2.62: 14.984s, 2020328 bytes
Autoconf 2.63.127-b207b: 9.721s, 999215 bytes
giving a >50% reduction in size, and 35% reduction in speed. The resulting
configure script is slightly faster, too, although that is harder to measure
objectively (it takes so long that I end up doing other things in the
background, so system load varies between timing runs).
And there is still more trimming possible.
