With this patch applied the testsuite now fails for me (autoconf
from subversions as of this morning):  
 ..
 37: compile.at:169    ok
 38: compile.at:205    FAILED near `compile.at:239'
 39: compile.at:257    ok
 ..
However, I am not sure, whether the testsuite is broken or whether
it actually fails.

Below is the output of "debug-38.sh >log-28 2>&1".
