Important change needed to my patch before applying:
don't use _ACEOF as here-document separator; it conflicts with
the one used when generating config.status (AS_SANITIZE_SHELL is
called there too).
Guess my minimal test file should have included AC_OUTPUT :-)

Thanks, will get that and check.
I'll probably resubmit my patch when I've tested the check on cygwin bash,
with the above issue fixed.
