[Swftools-common] character not found warnings using pdf2swf

Starting Monday, the program we have using the pdf2swf utility started
throwing a gigantic number of warnings of the following type:

WARNING Couldn't load font Courier
(/opt/bea/swftools/pdf2swf/fonts/n022003l.pfb)
WARNING Didn't find character 'space' (c=32,u=32) in current charset
(Courier, 0 characters)

And it seems to throw the 'Didn't find character 'SOME_CHARACTER'...'
for every single character in the PDF document.  

Permissions haven't changed, the PDFs being generated and passed to this
utility haven't changed in structure or version, so I'm not sure what
could have caused this behavior all of the sudden.  This is only
happening in our development environment thankfully, but the same exact
utility with the same exact PDFs runs perfectly fine in our staging,
production and local deployment environments...I even replaced the
existing installation of swftools on the development server with the one
from staging and I'm still seeing this exception being thrown...any
ideas what could be causing this?  The warnings are obviously being
thrown because it can't load in the .pfb file, but there's no reason it
can't load the file in because the same exact installation of swftools
on 4 other machines reads that file in and generates the swf file just
fine.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!
