I see it too. avi2swf does compile on my (older) Gentoo with
(I think) avifile 0.7.32, but fails to compile on the Gentoo on my
laptop with avifile 0.7.38.

introduced (again) some non backward-compatible changes to the C++ interface.
I'll have a look at that for 0.5.1.

For 0.5.0, installing (or introducing a depend on)
=avifile-0.7.32.20030219 should do the trick.

While at it, the following dependencies should be more accurate than
what's currently in the swftools-0.5.0 ebuild:

    DEPEND=">=media-libs/t1lib-1.3.1
        media-libs/freetype
        media-libs/jpeg"
    RDEPEND=""

Greetings

Matthias

PS: Thanks for writing/maintaining that ebuild! I'm a big fan of Gentoo
    Linux. :)
