Thanks for the explanation. Here the problem appeared after some days of erratic operation from the newsservers (there's a group of them with a dns roundrobin). The new stuff coming in is ok, so maybe it was some screwup at my ISP.

There are two basic approaches to handling article d/l and saves. You are
using the one that doesn't work in cases like this, attempting to d/l and
save the attachment directly. The other way, d/ling to cache, and THEN
saving, should work better, but of course requires a larger cache,

Ok, let's see if I have understood everyhing correctly.

Anyway, what you do is this. Instead of hitting save attachment directly
from the overview and letting it download and auto-save, just hit
download, not save. With multi-parts, you WILL need to expand them so you
can select all the parts, when telling it to d/l, or it will only get the
first part of each multi-part.

I've selected not to collapse complete multi-parts in order to expand the thread, but it looks like it's not important to select all sub-parts, if I select the thread and hit "download" it says it's downloading everything. There's some complaining about articles not found, and it has stopped in mid-download, with only some stuff in the cache. Is there a limit to the number of errors before it stops completely? I've tried to select all parts manually and it looks like it's doing the same thing.

I'm trying something different: I've told pan to copy everything to pan.sendlater (it was just an empty folder). Looks like it's working better, it's still downloading after many errors. Ok, it stopped again and I had to restart it manually. This means I cannot leave it running unattended, but overall it's managing to download more parts than with "save"..... It'll do for now, since this kind of error is very rare on my newsserver.

A variation on this technique was pointed out earlier on this list. If
you have multiple servers available but either none of them have the

Yes, I remember reading that, but I have no "backup" hi-quality server....

Bye and thanks again for the explanations,
