Follow-up Comment #1:
Looking at the messages it could be that you've setup Octave to get NEWS from
the Internet. Login, named pipe etc. usually refer to communications and the
errors appear to be about failed communications. Octave doesn't access network
or internet resources unless you explicitly instruct it to do so.
In the main GUI menu, under Edit | Preferences => Network tab, be sure to
unselect both settings there.
Please report back if that solves your problem.
