Follow-up Comment #5, bug #55724 (project octave):
The attached patch (replacing any of the previous patches) should fix
compiling a couple more packages with the newer automake.
It is failing for of-general that doesn't compile with the current default
Octave.
I haven't tried a stable or any native build.
