Follow-up Comment #14, bug #9102 (project mldonkey): Are you sure that it is not possible to guess the encoding of a peer? For example one could do that by checking the emule version. I think there is something like that for edonkey servers in the emule souce. Newer edonkey servers do some character encoding changes to UTF-8 for incoming shares. Perhaps we should fall back to charset guessing when character_encoding_default is not set and for sending to UTF-8, then it is just for the corner cases where we can't be sure but the user is sure.
