Try to confirmation on this but I believe you can edit the version in
the object's ,v file. I am sure I have done this before but it is ages
ago.

If you have accidentally checked in a revision with the incorrect
number, is it possible to renumber the internal revision number in the
RCS files.

          2.24   23.1 (should have been 2.23.1.1) <- need to renumber

should be 2.26 but RCS complains the number must be bigger than 23.1
