May I suggest instead to store numbers in canonical format? Makes it a 
lot easier for

a. non US-numbers
b. automated dialers & fax

Surely Bayonne has the necessary code to handle canonical format, i.e. 
+44 (207) 357-4409 or
+1 (709) 345-7800 x220
+COUNTRY_CODE (AREA_CODE) TRUNK-LINE xEXTENSION
