The problem is in creating the static library. I'm not familiar with  
static libs on Mac (only ever used dynamiclibs/dylib), nor am I  
familiar with ar although the help output indicates it supports mach- 
o format. It is probably one of the flags (cru) causing an issue, but  
I don't know what they *should* be.
