Hmm, debian has freetype 2.1.7, are you able to test 2.1.9 and 2.1.8?
Someone opened a bug to get the newer version packaged, unfortunately
the maintainer seems to be missing in action since his last upload was
Jan 2004 and all the uploads since then have been non-maintainer ones.
Thanks for the info, I'll pass this on to the font author.
