[Freetype] FreeType 2 backend for XFree86

Dear all,

An early BETA of a TrueType and Type 1 backend for XFree86 4.2.0 and
later is available from

in the files

  xfree86-freetype2-03042002.tar.gz
  xfree86-freetype2.patch

(Yes, you need both.)

This is a beta version, and is not ready for redistribution (so please
don't).  This code has received almost no testing, so please make it
crash.

The following are missing and need to be done before release:

  - support for the X11R6 XLFD extensions;
  - support for non-Unicode and symbol Type 1 fonts (symbol TrueType
    fonts work).

P.S. David, this is 2.0.9, and I'm impressed with the quality of the
     (non-AA) Type 1 rendering.
