Since I only use FT to open font file and extract outlines, not to render text, so I did not upgrade to FT2.

LOTS! Including support for formats OTHER than TrueType, such as Type 1, OpenType, etc.
Shall I upgrade to FT2 to fix the MacOS X problem?
It's one option, though it would require changes to your code as the API changed. I'll take a look later today at rolling the OS X changes back down to 1.x since some others have asked for it as well.
