I have burnt DVD-RW successfully with
Linux sg driver version: 3.1.24
Cdrecord-ProDVD-Clone 2.01a12 (i586-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2003 Jörg
Schilling
Unlocked features: ProDVD Clone
Limited features: speed
This copy of cdrecord is licensed for:
private/research/educational_non-commercial_use
TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM
Using libscg version 'schily-0.7'
scsibus0:
0,0,0 0) 'SONY ' 'DVD RW DRU-500A ' '2.0c' Removable CD-ROM
SuSE 8.2, kernel 2.4.20, ieee1394 interface.
In fact, once I had the ieee1394 going it was absolutely zero trouble.
The drive is an external DRX-500ULX, firmware 2.0c. As the internal ID
shows, the drive itself is identical to the IDE version (surprise
surprise).
You can use udf now, if you create the filesystem in a file and
loopmount it. Then you write the file as diskimage using your favourite
method. Of course, DVD+RW packet writing is nicer (anyone got this
going with Sony DRX-500ULX/???-500???, and/or Ricoh MP5125A ?)
