I have successfully created and am able to mount an ISO9660 DVD-RW disc,
created on a Pioneer A-03.
However, when I try to make a UDF disc,
mkisofs -o backup.udf -U -J backup/ or
mkisofs -o backup.udf -U backup/
it burns OK, but I am unable to mount it
address@hidden rs]$ mount -t udf /dev/cdrom /mnt/dvd/
mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom,
or too many mounted file systems
I have UDF read/write support in my kernel (2.4.18) and am able to mount
DVD video discs that have been created on the same drive under Win2000.
I am assuming this is because, as mentioned in the mkisofs man page,
"UDF support is currently in alpha status", but I just wanted to check.
Given that I am primarily looking to archive data to DVD-R media, what
are the limitations of Joliet ISO9660 (the disks need to be Windows
compatible), that I need to watch out for?
Thanks for any assistance.
