When I press Space-CapsLock there, exactly the same thing happens, and similar for other combinations. BTW, I'm currently experimenting with StumpWM and they seem to have a similar problem. If we can fix this here, maybe we can tell
them what the solution.

That's very strange, as the XI keyboard mapping code should now be
equivalent to the core event code.  What if you run Emacs with:

  src/emacs -q -xrm 'Emacs.disableInputExtension: true'
