[Alsa-xmms-user] xmms-alsa does not work with esd on

Hi,

I installed ALSA on RedHat Linux 9 using freshrpm packages proceeding as
per instructions on:
http://freshrpms.net/docs/alsa/

Now since many programs require ESD (for multichannel stuff), I would
like to keep esd daemon running always.

With esd running, both mplayer -ao esd <music file> and mplayer -ao
alsa9 <music file> works perfectly.

However, with esd daemon running, XMMS can play music with ESD output
plugin, but not with alsa output plugin.  The xmms-alsa plugin only
works when esd daemon is not running. 

If I try to use alsa plugin when ESD is running, then XMMS hangs, I have
to 'kill' it. 

I wanted to know whether I am doing something wrong, or this is the
normal behavior.
