How about markdown? Reddit uses it, for example. And its really easy.

I suppose the best choice is BBCode since everybody who ever used forums
knows about it.

All the markup plugins I tried require a _javascript_ WYSIWYG editor to be
on by default.  Once I get around modifying the BBCode plugin so that it
works without the WYSIWYG editor, I'll enable it.
