"dd" only cuts them out, you need to type "pp" to actually paste them
somewhere else. Same with "yy".

I've never experienced that. Does it happen on specific images?
Try pressing Ctrl+C, it should stop loading whatever is loading, though
I'm not certain if it works in your case.
