i think the best is to compile Alsa yourself, or to take a Linux distribution
which is already shipped with Alsa.
With a Creative Live! card you'll need to load the snd-emu10k1 module.
If the module loads, and you still don't get any sound, you'll probably have to
unmute the channels using alsamixer.
