Here is the function reference for etime, which can also be seen by typing 'help etime':

There is an example given for using etime. it takes two time values as input, and returns the elapsed time as output. 

perhaps you can give more details about exactly what you are trying to do and what is giving you trouble in a post at the Discourse forum.
