Greetings.

I don't think I've contributed to much more than one or two octave
threads. But with more people now forced to "work from home", maybe
octave is going to be more useful to more people?

Integers are for counting. Most of us count starting at 1, but it is
common in computing to start counting at 0.

Real numbers (from mathematics) and floating point numbers (from
computing, regardless of "precision") are not the same. If you add X
to a number, do some stuff and then subtract X from the number, you may
find the "number" is different from before and after. This problem
infects much of numerical methods. Among other things, it infects
"division by zero".

Being able to calculate something quickly, is likely not better than
being able to calculate something more accurately.

Expect to calculate some things in much more than 1 way. And be
prepared for the various methods to produce different results.

Gord
