I see many syslog entries that appear to be from/about octave.  I do not
use octave gui.  However, there is a 'octave --no-gui' running in an xterm.

Is this from octave?  How do I stop it?  Will removing
/usr/local/share/applications/www.octave.org-octave.desktop
eliminate the log entries?

ns#012description:         GNU Octave is a high-level interpreted
language, primarily intended for numerical computations. It provides
capabilities for the numerical solution of linear and nonlinear proble
ms, and for performing other numerical experiments. It also provides
extensive graphics capabilities for data visualization and manipulation.
Octave is normally used through its interactive command line in
terface, but it can also be used to write non-interactive programs. The
Octave language is quite similar to Matlab so that most programs are
easily portable.#012#012Octave has extensive tools for solving c
ommon numerical linear algebra problems, finding the roots of nonlinear
equations, integrating ordinary functions, manipulating polynomials, and
integrating ordinary differential and differential-algebraic
equations. It is easily extensible and customizable via user-defined
functions written in Octave's own language, or using dynamically loaded
modules written in C++, C, Fortran, or other languages.#012scre

Please do not cross post your question [1]. This is very bad practice!
If you receive an helpful answer, make sure that at all locations you
asked this question, that helpful answer can be found. This way others
can benefit from it and the internet is saved from too many unanswered
problem threads.

Please be additionally more verbose about your system and Octave
installation method. If you use Ubuntu and installed Octave via
gnome-software, a similar issue was reported [2] and comment #11 should
help.

HTH,
Kai

This does not seem to be [2]. I do not get high CPU usage. I received
12 of these entries in the past 24 hours. After thinking about this, I
think it may be some quirk in gnome-software.

Meerkat> uname -a
Linux Meerkat 5.0.0-23-generic #24~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 29
16:12:28 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Meerkat> lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
Release: 18.04
Codename: bionic

I build Octave from HG sources.
./configure F77=gfortran --with-qt=5 --no-create --no-recursion

My build is somewhat dated,
octave:5> [v, d] = version ()
v = 6.0.0
d = 2019-02-23

I don't think so, but, I will get up-to-date and see if that eliminates
the message.

Building now. Then make check
