Ah, sorry for false alarm.
After comparing with http://babbage.cs.qc.cuny.edu/IEEE-754.old/Decimal.html
it looks like Octave actually does rounding before truncating to single
precision.

Well done. but still it would be better to have control over the feature...
and to have no memory leaks when calculating with single precision.
