...and which version of Mac OS do you use? The official Octave 3.8 build is
outdated and known to be broken on recent Mac OS >10.9.
You may want to try my inofficial build at
http://wiki.octave.org/Create_a_MacOS_X_App_Bundle_Using_Homebrew
