I got Octave installed with that link. Over the next few weeks, I will work to test it out and see if it is a suitable replacement to Matlab…

I used them for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 and they both seem to work.
Note: the GUI is not yet ready for the 3200x1800 screens that are now out for Windows. There is a bug fix already checked in but the binaries do not have it
yet so be careful if you have a QHD display.

Hi,
I don't believe there is an official release for an installer for 3.8 for Windows yet. I have been successful in using the files found here:
http://wiki.octave.org/Octave_for_Windows#Octave_3.8_MXE_Builds
To get 3.8 to run on my Windows 7 machine.
