Thanks for the suggestions. AFAIK, no firewall on the machine. The
Emerson network is enormous and murky, so possibly a problem there,
but it worked fine last time I tried it.

Unknown and impenetrable. I haven't heard of any major changes lately.
We don't have a whitelist for outgoing traffic.

I could try accessing other servers with sockets, but that's a bit
outside my area of expertise.
