Thank you very much for your email. I find it encouraging that you and
others are making progress on the Windows versions of Octave. Right now I
don't have the time to work on Octave Workshop. There were also some
complications for me in the sense that John W. Eaton and the other Octave
designers seemed to be interested in an approach which seemed to make things
a bit more complicated for me.

John and the others were very excited (I think) by the possibility of having
a GUI for Octave. Their proposed mode of operation is to use a virtual TTY
to communicate between the Octave process and the GUI application. This is a
very good way of separating the code into various components, but it also
means that the GUI must have a full terminal emulator. This meant that
instead of embedding Octave, I would basically run the Octave binary in its
own thread. In addition, I was using the opportunity between user inputs to
read and write to Octave data, like matrices. When Octave is run as its own
process, I lose that data path, which means that there's no special window
of time for me to read and write Octave data. As a fix, they started
discussing a possible solution by making Octave thread-safe.

That sounds very exciting to me, but unfortunately sounds like a larger
project than what I was shooting for.

In the mail exchanging to him, he have state that 
he did not mean initiate some new projects with the good folks who develop 
Octave.

Unfortunately the development of the octave workshop will not be resumed.

I refer his mail not only to inform that.
I felt that his mail contains the good suggestions for those who want and want 
to develop GUI.    

I myself am not strongly concerned to GUI. But I am using the octave for the 
lecture in my unisersity.
 It is preffed the existence of the GUI for the biginners.
