Hi, Markus,

I use the screen snapshot utility to produce a .png file.  I use The Gimp to 
clean up the file (remove unwanted menu bars, etc.) and to convert to JPEG or 
whatever format I want.

This may be a bit cumbersome, but it works fine under RedHat 8 and Kubuntu 
6.06 LTS with Octave 2.1.73.
