John noted that this works with gnuplot 4.2. With earlier versions of
gnuplot (the vast majority of systems installed at the moment), then "c"
in the above example must be a 3 element vector where all elements are
either 1 or 0. Unfortunately there is no consistent way to set the
colours in earlier versions of gnuplot. This will at least give you
RGBCMY, Black and a pseudo White colour (ie brown on X11)..
