I don't know if this is an OpenOffice file or not, but...
This is an awful way but worked for me.

After being happy with the plot, or whatever, on the
screen; hit "Print Screen" button.  

Then open the application, "Paint", and ctrl-v the image
down onto the workspace.  Now you can label and draw extra
lines pointing out details.  Save as a .bmp file with only
16 colors to save memory.

Then from the Word .doc import the picture from file and
place it into your document for presentation.  Doesn't get
"chewed" up too much and works.
