I think it was working, except when code mixed C++ exception handling
and W32 API functions.  Someone (apparently a MinGW user?) reported a
problem, and the "fix" was to revert to SJLJ exception handling in the
MinGW and Cygwin builds.  At least that's the way I understand the
sequence of events.  Please correct me if this is not the way things
happened.
