| printf("[");
| for k=1:rows(a);
| printf(repmat("%g,", 1, columns(a))(1:end-1), a(k,:));
| printf(";");
| endfor;
| printf("]\n");
This will also work:
octave:1> a = [1,2;3,4]
a =
1 2
3 4
octave:2> type -q a
[ 1, 2;
3, 4 ]
But why do you want this form of output?
