How to deactivate legend of lines when using plot or gplot command?

I am using Octve v2.1.36 under Windows 2K installed from binaries.
When I call plot command like this:
plot (x,y,'-')
it creates except the intended line also legend in right upper corner.
How to manage or remove this legend?
