OK, I found a god-forgotten printserver that still runs RH7.3,
compiled octave 2.1.57 and can reproduce the problem.

The save file is identical to what I get on other computers.
So it is "load" command that gets broken somehow.

(I compiled with --enable-shared --disable-static.)
