I'm trying to install (on a Redhat 7.2 system) a newer Octave (2.1.36)
to eliminate a conflict reported when I tried to install Octave-Forge.
The new Octave's rpm demands libstdc++-2.10.0, but when I try to install
that package I get an error stating that I already have the newer
2.96-98 version installed. If I persist, I get a message that several
programs rely on the newer version of libstdc++. This is, I guess, what
is called "dependency hell." Can I use a symbolic link or any other
trick to get around this? Is it an rpm problem avoidable by using other
install techniques? It seems to be a major problem with at least Redhat.
Thanks!
