octave 2.1.34 & saving structures

I just compiled octave-2.1.34 with succes under Redhat 7.0.

But I used to have a patch (I think against 2.1.28) to make it able to save
structures, but that patch doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have a patch that
works against 2.1.34?
(Are there no plans to add the patch to the source? I read the arguments
against it somewhere in the maintainers list ( in 2000), but maybe it
would be a good idea to provide the patch with the source, so people who don't
bother creating new datatypes can save structs and lists...).

Stef.
