gnuplot error...

hey,
im using octave v2.0.16 with gnuplot version 3.7, and when ever i do a
simple plot function llike plot (x,y); i get a plot fired up in
xwindows, however the plot then immediatly closes. i dunno why its
closing so quickly. for the split second i can see it, it appears to be
the correct plot, but then it just closes. any thoughts as to why it is
doing this ? (im runnign linux 2.2.17 with a slackware 7.0 distro) ?
