Hi Carlos,
I didn´t do the same thing as you did with regard to cross compiling. But with
regard to one issue we share the same results. The making of the info files
does NOT work on M$-cygwin (I tested NT4.0 SP6).
Using the info reader that comes with cygwin you cannot read what is
generated; this holds true for what I used to build on my own as well as what I
got from recompiling the sources for 2.1.30 (31). The info files lack the
reference index; therfore you cannot dive into them. Make boils out with very
strange errors (cannot find texinfo.tex, even though it was in the path and
available).
I helped myself by compiling on linux and then taking the info files
over to NT. But even this way the cygwin - info reader (the one from the
"latest" directory) is not capable to read apropriately. But emacs (20.7 on NT)
does work.
Thus two things have to be stated with regard to the generation of info files:
1.) they do not compile smoothly from the cygwin port (at least with what I
used to compile them, it was 2.95.2)
2.) info from cygwin cannot read them even if they stem from a linux - compile.
Apparently there is something going wrong with info on cygwin.

Can anyone confirm / negate those findings? Are there any workarounds available?
Thanks a lot - especially to Tom Weichman for making the first version
available.
Take care,

Dieter
