make install problems

Hi all,

I'm trying to install octave on a dec.

I get through the 'configure' part ok,
at least no obvious WARNING/ERROR messages

then I try 'make install',
and I get this:

        Make: Makeconf: Must be a separator on line 71.  Stop.


can anybody help, or am I some kind of spanner?
