I just installed Octave 2.0.16.  The make went fine, and I set the
environment variable OCTAVE_PATEH to my install directory.
When I try to invoke it I get nothing but "getcwd:" for a response,
even when using various options, like -v.  Is there something
else
that I  need to do?
