errorbars with plot command

Hi everyone...

I simply can not figure out how data should be formatted
for simple 2d-plots with errorbars using 'plot'.
Nothing like plot(x,y,e,'~'), plot(x,[y e],'~') or the like 
seems to work for me.

I am aware that the gplot command can be used for the 
purpose, eg.: gplot A with errorbars - but I would like
to utilize plot() for the purpose.
