Octave 2.1.14- compiling

Hi,
I am new to Octave and have RH-5.2 on i486 DX4-100. I could compile
Octave 2.1.13, but when I try to compile Octave 2.1.14 at the end I am
getting two make errors. What am I missing? I also have problems with
saving lists to a file on disk.
If would appreciate very much if any body could explain.
