octave and povray

Last days I wrote a couple of functions to use the raytracer povray
(http://www.povray.org/) for visualization of data generated by octave.
At the moment it's possible to generate surfaces from x,y,z-data like mesh()
does it using gnuplot. The surface is build of triangles, smoothed triangles
(slow, but looks great) or a wireframe-model with light effects, shadows
etc., the image will be shown in a window (with X11) and saved to a file. Axis,
labels etc. are not yet implemented, but the results look quite good.

Before going further I'd like to get some feedback, because I'm not
very experienced in octave and povray programming...

Do you know about related/similar projects? Is there demand for an
octave-povray interface? Does anybody want to join (or take over) the
project? If I decide to force the development, there are a lot of things to
do...

I'm not posting the sources, because it's still pre-alpha (although it works
on my system) and documentation is almost non-existant. If you are interested
in getting the sources, drop me a mail...
But be aware that you may need some knowledge about povray to get it working on
your system.

                        Joerg
