I have no current plans to write an interface to a symbolic
mathematics program myself, but if someone else wants to work on a
project like this, I would encourage them to contact me.
For something like this to be used with Octave, I think we would first
need a freely available system for symbolic math. I don't know what
(if anything) is available.
