That's a great way to contibute. I have an OSS consultancy and contribute 2% of gross revenue to OSS projects.

I also encourage corporate users of OSS to budget a contribution or buy services from the core development team.

Quite a number of organisations exist to manage the finances of OSS projects, eg SPI[1].

Another great way for non-developers to contribute to OSS projects is to write documentation.
