First of all, this is not really the right list for this kind of
question... l4-hurd or perhaps bug-hurd would be more appropriate.

Those who originally advocated it, arrived at the conclusion that
Coyotos is not the right base after all, and consequently abandoned the
plans, quite a while back.

Neal Walfield, who was one of the masterminds behind the Hurd/Coyotos
idea, has now created a prototype kernel (called Viengoos), which
incorporates some ideas from EROS/Coyotos, and some ideas from other
projects, and some copletely new ideas.

I don't know though whether he actually intends to port Hurd to it, or
hopes for others to pick it up.

AFAIK there is nothing else presently going on regarding new kernels for
the Hurd. All current development still happens on the Mach-based
version.
